Site Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Site Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in setting out, quality control and technical delivery across our civil engineering projects. You will work closely with the wider site team to ensure works are carried out to design, programme, and specification while maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out setting out for drainage, earthworks, highways, structures, utilities and public realm works
  • Interpret and implement project drawings, specifications and ITPs on site
  • Assist in planning site activities in line with programme requirements
  • Maintain accurate site records including as-built drawings, survey data and QA documentation
  • Undertake quality inspections and ensure compliance with project specifications and the Specification for Highway Works (SHW)
  • Support preparation of RAMS, ITPs and permits to work
  • Monitor site progress and report on key performance indicators
  • Liaise with site management, subcontractors, client representatives and utility providers
  • Contribute to problem-solving and technical queries to maintain progress and compliance
  • Promote and uphold Environ’s culture of safety, environmental protection and teamwork

Skills & Experience

  • Degree/HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Previous experience as a Site Engineer within civil engineering (drainage, highways, utilities, earthworks or structures)
  • Proficiency in setting out using GPS and robotic total stations (Trimble/Leica)
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering specifications (MCHW, SHW, Series 500/1700, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of temporary works and earthwork support
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider project team
  • CSCS card essential; SMSTS/SSSTS and First Aid desirable

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Assistant Planner to join our project delivery team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build their career in planning and project management within the construction and civil engineering sector. You will support senior planners and project managers in developing, maintaining, and monitoring project schedules while gaining hands-on experience in design, planning, and contractual practices.

Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant Planner, you will:

  • Create and Maintain Project Schedules: Develop detailed project programmes using industry-standard software and update them to reflect progress and changes.
  • Support Design and Phasing: Assist with preliminary design tasks, including sketches, calculations, and technical drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
  • Data Gathering & Analysis: Collect and analyse information on timelines, resources, and costs to support decision-making.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure smooth and efficient project execution.
  • Tender & Bid Support: Contribute to the preparation of tender submissions and bid documents for new projects.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track project progress, highlight risks or delays, and propose solutions to keep projects on track.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records and prepare reports to present project status updates to stakeholders.
  • Learning & Development: Continuously develop your knowledge of planning tools, construction techniques, and industry best practices.
  • Commercial / Contractual Knowledge: Gain experience in contract management, particularly with NEC4 contracts and associated programme implementation.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Ideally, working towards or holding a degree (or equivalent qualification) in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Enthusiastic about pursuing a career in construction planning and project management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with exposure to planning/design software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, AutoCAD, or Revit) being desirable.
  • Analytical with strong problem-solving skills.
  • A clear communicator who enjoys working as part of a team.
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.
